A Deafening Silence from African Leaders on the Recent Tragedies in the Mediterranean

With the recent death of more than 800 immigrants just off the coast of Libya, it is no surprise that political discussion in Europe has been focused on how the EU should respond to the crisis of human trafficking and thousands of people fleeing Africa to come to Europe. However, while one may criticise Europe’s leaders’ actions or lack thereof on the migration crisis, they are at least discussing the issue. The same cannot be said for African leaders, with the exception of the President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou.

EU Children of Peace in South Kivu, DRC

South Kivu, DRC – A music video featuring world music personalities has been launched as part of the EU Children for Peace initiative, which funds humanitarian projects for children growing up in conflict regions. Over one billion children live in countries affected by conflict. They are especially vulnerable to the fallout of war. The release of the video aims to make the world aware of these children’s plight, particularly their lack of access to education.
