Insurgency in Somalia still rages and Islamic fighters remain a threat to the Sheikh Sharif Ahmed’s western-backed government in a conflict that has left hundreds of civilians dead. The AU peacekeeping forces, AMISOM, were deployed to give protection, food aid and help to the Somalia transition government. This story shows the extent to which Mogadishu has been destroyed and the degree to which Somali security forces rely on the peacekeepers.
