Afronline’s journalist wins Thomson Foundation prize 0

Brussels – One of Afronline’s correspondent journalists, Salih Amar Hamid, has wonhas won a prestigious media competition held by the Thomson Foundation for his article covering refugees and migration in Sudan.

The competition showcases work being produced by trainees on the Sudan Media Capacity Building Project, and the prize is a study tour in London. The awards ceremony was hosted by the Ambassador Michael Aron at the Residence, complete with red carpet.

Salih Amar Hamid “wrote a powerful story about migrants in Sudan”, says the Thomson Foundation’s Helen Scott. The article was published in both English and Italian, and provides an account of the lives of refugees in Sudan, as well as an in-depth analysis of the wider migration phenomenon stemming from Sudan that also reaches Libya, Egypt, and Europe.

The Thomson Foundation, in partnership with the British Council, has trained around 500 journalists in Sudan in the last three and a half years, in a project funded by the British Embassy, who has spent nearly over a million pounds on the project.
