Tanzania albino girls at risk of rape

Albinos have long been targeted in Tanzania because of a strongly held belief that their body parts have magic or medicinal qualities. But in a recent press conference, Tanzania’s most prominent albino charity said young girls and women with albinism are also now becoming a target of sexual assault. At least 63 albinos, including children, are known to have been killed, mostly in the remote northwest of Tanzania.

South African wins CNN Journalists award

KAMPALASouth Africa’s Samantha Rogers scooped the CNN/Multichoice African Journalist award for 2010 for her story focusing on plights of albinos in Tanzania. Samantha works with South Africa’s e.tv. This was Samantha’s second time to win this ward. She first won it in 2001.
