Guinea: Conde declared winner in Presidential election

Opposition leader Alpha Conde has been declared the winner of Guinea’s presidential runoff election. According to electoral Commission, Mr Conde gained 52.5% of votes in the 7 November poll against former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo.

Guinea: historic presidential run-off

Residents in Guinea have voted in a presidential runoff election described as the country’s first free polls since independence from France in 1958. No major disruptions were reported as voters went to the polls on Sunday, though worries remained over the potential for ethnically driven violence once the results are released.

Guinea: new clashes, elections campaigning suspended

New clashes broke out on Saturday and Sunday between supporters of Guinea’s two rival presidential candidates.  One person was killed and more than 50 injured. After the violence, the government said election campaigning had been suspended.
