Forgotten Darfur: Old Tactics and New Players

Since 2010 Darfur has all but vanished from the international agenda. The Sudanese government has claimed that major armed conflict is essentially over, that armed violence of all kinds has declined significantly, and that such violence is now dominated by criminality rather than by military confrontation. “Notwithstanding such celebratory assertions Darfur’s conflict has moved largely unnoticed into a new phase” writes Small Arms Survey in a report dedicated to Darfur crisis.

Brussels – Challenges met by the Panel of Experts on the Sudan throughout 2011 essentially show the inefficiency of the sanctions regime established by the United Nations Security Council, says Claudio Gramizzi*, appointed in February 2011 by Ban Ki Moon member of the UN Panel of experts in charge of monitoring the implementation of measures relating to Darfur. Warplanes have bombed South Sudan – UN confirm

KHARTOUM -  A UN investigation team confirmed Monday that warplanes from the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) had carried out attacks against some locations in Southern Sudan near the joint border this month.
