Tunisia: A Qualitative Study for Radio Gafsa

As part of its partnership with Radio Tunisian, Fondation Hirondelle has organized five participatory meetings with listeners from across the central southwest of Tunisia. Fondation Hirondelle is working in Tunisia since July 2011 and has developed a project to enhance the capacity of Radio Gafsa, a regional radio station from Radio Tunisienne, so that it serves the population as a true and efficient public service broadcaster.

Measuring the Impact of Media in Conflict Zones

Lausanne (Switzerland) – The power of media in today’s world can hardly be contested. Especially in the wake of the Arab Spring, we know that it has the power to manipulate, mislead and gag whole populations, or to serve as a tool for democratic change. This is not new. But how do you measure the social impact of media, for good or for bad? This question has not been resolved and continues to influence the willingness of donors to finance media projects in developing countries, including conflict zones.

South Sudan starts talking, thanks to Radio Miraya

JUBA (South Sudan)Miraya is a 24 hour, 7 day a week radio operated by the United Nations Mission in Sudan in partnership with Fondation Hirondelle, a Swiss non-governmental organization. Launched on June 30, 2006, Miraya has grown to an organization of more than 100 national staff members (journalists, presenters, technicians and support staff) who have been recruited from all over Sudan and trained in-house. Radio Okapi honoroured with ‘Free Media Pioneer’ Award

The International Press Institute (IPI) has honoured Radio Okapi, based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the 2010 ‘Free Media Pioneer’ award. Radio Okapi is a partnership between the UN mission in the DRC and the Hirondelle Foundation, a Swiss non-governmental organization (NGO), Afronline.org’s media partner.
