Nigeria: Jonathan coasts to victory

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is set to be Nigeria’s president for the next four years, after taking an unassailable lead and defeating 19 rivals in a decisive election victory. Results so far obtained in 32 out of the 36 states show Mr. Jonathan leading his closest rival, Muhammadu Buhari, by over 10 million votes, and already surpassing the requisite 25 per cent of votes cast in 24 states as mandated by law.

Goodluck Jonathan launched his official biography

Titled “Wind of Hope” the biography chronicles Jonathan’s life from his early days growing up in the poverty ravaged rural village in the Niger Delta to the time he became president of Africa’s most populous nation. A team of researchers, writers and academics were hired to produce the biography which features several interviews from family members, friends and political associates who know Jonathan well.

Benin: Yayi wins presidential re-election

COTONOU - Benin’s incumbent President Boni Yayi has won re-election with 53 per cent of the vote following March 13 polls. The official results announced Friday by the country’s election commission, gave Yayi the ticket to avoid a run-off vote.
